Stephen Wright’s House of Dreams
For the second year running we have worked with the ‘House of Dreams’ artist and designer, Stephen Wright, to inspire our Degree Students.
The ‘House of Dreams’ is a museum and also Stephen’s home in East Dulwich, London. The exterior and interior of the house are covered with objects collected by Stephen and worked into the fabric of the house. It is a celebration of the weird and wonderful, but also of memory and identity, which our Second Year Degree students encountered on a visit to the house as part of their ‘Research & Experimentation’ unit last term.
During the visit, Stephen discussed his artistic practice, indicating the cultural art of Mexico and India that inspire him and the objects he has collected and received from individuals interested in the house.
Back at the RSN at Hampton Court, students experimented with mixed media, based on their research at the house. The final artwork was a ‘head container’, referencing the students’ own ‘House of Dreams’. Students completed the project by showcasing their creations in a ‘runway’ show which they also choreographed and filmed.
