Hand embroidery equipment

You will learn to use specialist hand embroidery tools and equipment whilst studying on the RSN degree. Industry quality lighting is used throughout the hand embroidery studios to ensure that you always work under the correct lighting levels, whatever the time of day.

IT Suite

All hand embroidery Degree students have access to our IT suite with Apple Mac and PC technology, design software, colour scanner/copier and printing facilities to support your practical and theoretical research.

Degree Library ‘Handling Collection’ / RSN Archive

As an RSN Degree student, you will have access to a number of established onsite RSN specific resources including the RSN Archive Collection and Handling Collection. These exquisite and rarely seen embroideries will support your learning in relation to your individual embroidery practice and inform your contextual studies and dissertation, depending on your chosen area of research.

RSN Library

The RSN offers a specialist library of more than 4000 volumes covering stitch technique, world textiles, artists’ monographs, design, colour, international stitch, fashion and contextual references. You can also access a wide range of specialist journals and magazines covering fashion, interiors, textile art and embroidery. You can also access the full UCA Library resource via your Black Board virtual learning environment (VLE) through myUCA. As a UCA/RSN Degree student you are also able to access all the student learning facilities at the UCA Epsom and UCA Farnham campuses.

Exhibition Visits

You are encouraged to visit current exhibitions throughout your RSN Degree course. This is a fundamental part of your learning experience and key to the development of your visual and critical analysis skills, plus it is thoroughly enjoyable! You will learn how to curate and display your work and gain insights into appropriate pricing structures.

Regular visits to exhibitions and places of academic interest are organised for RSN Degree students. Recent visits have included the Clothworkers Centre, the V&A, Crafts Study Centre at Farnham and major London exhibitions.
